How to use the S5 Filter on TikTok – and where to find it on iPhone!

If you’re an avid TikTok user, you’ll already be aware of the viral colour-bending S5 filter that everyone seems to be using. Let’s find out if it works:

The S5 filter is fundamentally being used to complete the ‘eye challenge’ on TikTok. Essentially, users are taking video footage of their eyes using the back camera and the flash, before applying the S5 filter. This trick allegedly creates the illusion of changing the colour of or brightening your eyes.

How to use the S5 Filter on TikTok

It’s relatively simple to find and use the S5 filter on TikTok.

All you need to do is open up the TikTok app, locate the ‘filter’ button to the right of the camera screen and, towards the bottom of the screen, you can scroll until the S5 filter appears.

    Does it actually work?

Several TikTok users have claimed that the S5 filter has changed the colour of their eyes or exposed the ‘real’ colour of their eyes.

However, others have dubbed the challenge as fake news. One TikTok user commented, “My eye colour didn’t change and now my eyes feel weird.”

Worryingly, there are plenty of health implications that could occur by doing this trend. Staring at a bright light, such as your camera flash, for too long can cause serious issues for your eyesight – even ‘flash blindness’, which creates dark spots in your vision for a temporary period of time!

Is there a way to change your eye colour on TikTok?

If you’re not looking to fall for the ‘eye challenge’ and the risks involved, there is another way to create the illusion of colour changing eyes.

Instead, you can tap the ‘effects’ icon and scroll until you’re able to locate the eye colour changing filter. From there, you’ll effectively be able to (virtually) try on different lenses.

The S5 filter may still be beneficial to use for TikTok content. The filter can brighten up footage and create a blue hue – it’s just safer not to use it on your eyes!
