Tic Tac Toe, or noughts as crosses as it’s known in the UK, sees each player trying to score three noughts or crosses in a row. The meme mocks Trump’s failure to win the game as he tries to invent his own rules. Sound familiar?
Who is Trump playing against?
The meme uses stills from Donald Trump’s interview with Axios political reporter, Jonathan Swan, about the coronavirus pandemic. This exchange went viral because of The President’s inability to answer Jonathan Swan’s questions directly.
In the recorded interview, Trump says the pandemic is “under control” in the U.S, to which Jonathan Swan replies, “How? A thousand Americans are dying a day.”
Trump then says, “They are dying. That’s true. And you have… it is what it is.”
Why Tic Tac Toe?
The verbal jousting continues between the reporter and the President as the interview goes on, and Trump seemed increasingly unable to answer any questions. His struggle to explain himself has inspired a number of memes, but the Tic Tac Toe meme perfectly shows a clear loser trying to bend the rules.
It is a funny example of Trump trying to think outside the box, even if that means creating his own rules!
