Tensions are rife between Victor Osimhen and the Napoli team over posting irresponsible TikTok video tarnishing the image of the player.
Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, is willing to take legal action against his football club after the club’s social media page posted videos on TikTok mocking Osimhen’s performance on the field. The club had a match on Sunday with Bologna, where the striker missed a penalty.
Later, the club’s TikTok account posted a video of the missed penalty with an odd voice dubbed over it. Naturally, this left the player feeling furious and disrespected. Roberto Calenda, Osimhen’s agent, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable.”
He further added, “A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news.”We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor.”
This is quite a huge blunder on the part of Napoli’s management team. Just last season Osimhen got the first league title for Napoli – something that the team had not received for three decades. His incredible performance of scoring 26 Serie A goals 31 across all competitions got him considerable love from his audience.
Reports say that the video came out amidst some tensions between Osimhen and his manager Rudi Garcia. However, the reason behind these tensions is unclear. The player’s current contract with the Napoli team runs until 2025 after which he will probably be joining Manchester United.
More about why Victor Osimhen is furious with Napoli’s TikTok posts
This is not the first video posted on TikTok mocking Osimhen. Three days ago, Napoli’s official account posted a video comparing the Nigerian player to a coconut. Even though both videos have been deleted now, they are still circulating across different social media handles.
It’s safe to say that posting content so irresponsibly can definitely be taxing for Napoli as a brand. Additionally, it has also tarnished the public image and reputation of a decent player.
