‘Shake to report,’ a feature aimed at helping users report problems quickly, is being called out for being too sensitive. In this article, we explore what it is and how it can be disabled when needed
What is ‘Shake’ on Instagram?
‘Shake’ on Instagram is a feature where, when you shake your phone, you can report a problem about the platform or another user. It is particularly useful in quickly reporting spam or abuse. By simply shaking your phone when on the app, it takes you to the reporting menu.
Why would I want to turn off ‘Shake?’
For some Instagram users, the ‘shake to report’ feature can be extremely sensitive. Simply putting your phone down or accidentally shaking your phone whilst on the app can trigger the reporting menu to pop up. Though it helps users to quickly report problems, it can be annoying when you are simply scrolling through Instagram or watching a reel.
Issues with this feature date back to 2015 where some tweeted @instagram with their issues. Others have commented more recently on the Tweet with similar issues.
How to turn off ‘Shake? on Instagram
To turn off shake, you can simply shake your phone whilst on Instagram. There should be an option to ‘disable shake.’
In the future, should you need to report a problem, ‘shake to report’ would obviously not work. Instead you should follow these three simple steps:
- Click on your profile
- Go to ‘Setting’
- Tap ‘Help’ and then ‘report a problem’
