A mom, who is also a former basketball coach, from Michigan has been arrested for catfishing and harassing her daughter via text messages.
Kendra G. Licari, 42, is a mom and a former basketball coach. On Monday, She was charged with catfishing and harassing her daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend via text messages.
She has been charged with two counts. One is stalking a minor and the other is obstruction of justice. Both felonies can give her five years in jail. Currently, she has been released with a $5000 bond.
Frank Barberi, a prosecutor of Isabella County District Court, said that Licari sent a total of 349 pages long texts to her daughter using a virtual private network (VPN) service.
Someone reported this harassment to the authorities at the daughter’s school, where Licari worked as a basketball coach. Throughout the investigation, Licari was present with the authorities and was attempting to solve the case. The school’s superintendent William Chilman told a newspaper outlet that the school did suspect Licari but could not find proof.
Eventually, when the school was unable to solve the case, the local police took it up. The messages were traced back to Licari’s IP address. Licari also confessed to the police that she was the one sending those messages.
Even though she admitted to this, it is unclear why she sent those messages in the first place. She is due to appear in court on December 29, so maybe then we will find out her motive.
Why would a mom be involved in catfishing her daughter?
Barberi said, “We’re talking about several hundreds of text messages, over 1,000 pages of discovery in the case. “By and large, it was mostly just harassing-type text messages, demeaning, demoralizing, and just mean texts.”
It is difficult to understand why a mom would do this to her daughter. Licari even tried to send messages from different locations and used contemporary slang, so it would seem like the daughter’s friends were sending them.
