Nepotism baby, also known as nepo baby, is a term used for those people who capitalized upon their famous parent’s networks to make their mark in Hollywood. Even though this term can be applied to all those who benefit disproportionately from the contacts and networks of their parents, nepotism baby is usually used for models and actors.
In 2022, people have realized that Hollywood only works through a network of family ties. Everyone working is someone’s someone. People were surprised when they realized that the show they liked so much, Euphoria, was created by the son of a popular director. The lead in the show is also the daughter of a director.
This is a cause of concern for many people, especially members of Gen Z. Since success in Hollywood is dependent upon your family ties, the importance of passion and creativity is lost.
Response to being a nepotism baby
Many actors and models have been vocal about this phenomenon. Some continue to stress how difficult it was to make their mark despite having close connections in the industry. For instance, Lottie Moss, who is the half-sister of supermodel Kate Moss, said that her super-famous sister never supported her professionally in her modeling career.
Many stars have also said that people should consider nepotism problematic in different fields like law and politics because these areas actually impact day-to-day life. On the other hand, if an actor’s daughter becomes a model that is not a big issue.
Moreover, people have also said that having close connections and ties only gives you an edge. It does not guarantee you a successful career, since there are many stars out there who belong to important families but have failed to make their mark. The reason is that in the end the audience decides who is and who is not worthy of staying in the industry.
