Big Hero 6 Aunt Cass meme explained: Twitter turns NSFW!

Following the release of Big Hero 6 back in 2014, Disney fans have marveled over supporting character Aunt Cass.

Recently, memes featuring Aunt Cass – including an edited version of the character – have been circulating social media platforms such as Reddit and Instagram.

Who is Aunt Cass?

Aunt Cass is an animated character in Disney’s 2014 film Big Hero 6. Her role in the film is the supportive aunt of the Hamada brothers, but we also know that she is the owner of Lucky Cat Café. It’s also worth noting that the voice actor behind Aunt Cass is the iconic Maya Rudolph.

Animated with wide eyes and the other facial features appearing smaller, some Reddit users have compared Aunt Cass to the likes of Disney’s Rapunzel or Anna from Frozen. A popular theory on Reddit is that Cass closely resembles an aged version of Rapunzel, right after the princess cuts her hair and transforms it into a brunette bob.

Why are Aunt Cass memes suddenly appearing?

Predominantly appearing on Reddit by Disney fans, Aunt Cass memes are primarily being used to humour how conventionally attractive the fictional character is. A photoshopped version of Cass with an edited body has recently surfaced on the internet, which is likely what reignited the popularity of Aunt Cass memes, despite the film’s release date being seven years prior.

Some other memes featuring Aunt Cass play out relatable situations, through the use of edited text and freeze frame stills from Big Hero 6.

One Reddit user even spotted an image of Aunt Cass being used as an advertisement for a ‘sassy housewife’ in the Wreck it Ralph sequel film, Ralph Breaks the Internet. Referring to a plot point in Big Hero 6, another Reddit user found hilarity in this Disney ‘Easter egg’ and wrote: “I see Hiro hasn’t given up on setting Aunt Cass out on dates.”

However, Aunt Cass memes aren’t fixated on Reddit alone. The frenzy seems to have also spread throughout Instagram, with some users creating fan accounts dedicated to the animated character.
