A new world record has been set as a mother in Morocco gives birth in a single pregnancy to nine babies- nonuplets.

Halima Cissé, the mother who gave birth to nine babies, did not know she would set a world record when she first got pregnant. But eventually, as her pregnancy progressed she found out that this was not a normal pregnancy.

From her hometown, Mali Cissé was flown to Morocco by the Malian government for special care. After 30 weeks of pregnancy, she gave birth to five girls and four boys through Cesarean.

The world's only nonuplets – nine babies born at the same time – have safely returned home to Mali after spending the first 19 months of their lives in Morocco.

Due to premature birth and the overall uniqueness of the pregnancy, the mother and her kids spent the first few months in the hospital, where doctors frequently monitored their health conditions. The family was then moved to an apartment, where they received medical facilities from the Ain Borja clinic.

After spending 19 months in Morocco, the whole family has returned to their hometown in the Malian capital- Bamako. Abdelkader Arby, the father, thanked the Malian government for their assistance and the government has also promised to cover the financial expenses involved in the upbringing of the children.  The father further said, “It’s a lot of work but Allah, who gave us this blessing, will help us in their upbringing and taking care of them.”

    More about the babies

The names of the girls are Kadidia, Fatouma, Hawa, Adama, and Oumou and the names of the boys are Mohammed VI, Oumar, Elhadji, and Bah. According to Prof Youssef Alaoui, the medical director at the clinic, all the babies weighed between 500g and 1kg (1.1lb and 2.2lb) at birth.

Recently, the babies turned 1 year old. On this occasion, their father talked about how famous they are getting, where people frequently come and ask to see all of them together. Moreover, he also talked about how each baby is unique. They all have different habits, where some cry more and others less and some like to get picked up often while others do not.
